Historic additions and lost features
Sympathetic, historic design
Many period homes have been modified over generations, and some later additions can be unsympathetic to the original building.
For clients looking to add character to ‘newer’ parts of their homes (including later Victorian or Edwardian additions) we can advise on appropriate designs and details.
We have a large archive and library of antique mouldings and profile cutters, allowing us to reproduce existing details or develop a profile specifically for your property.
Many historic buildings were built as one-offs. Where appropriate, we can create a profile that is unique to the design of your home
Rotten and broken timbers are common caused by weathering, neglect and age, when we cannot repair we can replace seamlessly, fitting to the original.

Case Study: Greystone House
A Grade II Listed Building built in 1755 within the Eastbourne Town Plan Conservation Area; a coaching inn with a modern extension added in the 1900s and characterless front door.
The brief was to design & make a curved portico roof for the extension matching that of the original, and apply for Listed Building Consent from the local Council.
Works also included replacement double-glazed sliding sash windows to match the original. Spot the difference!
Templates and detailed cutting profiles were created based upon the existing portico; a custom steam former was also created for the curved roof.
The new curved portico seamlessly blends into the 18th Century architecture, blending the original and new additions into one building.
